Voices.com

They Say
About Voices.com
Voices.com is the online marketplace that connects businesses with voice over talent.

Every now and then a company arises whose steely focus, passion for innovation and burning desire to change the world truly makes an impact. Voices.com strives to achieve amazing things through the talent and faith of ordinary people.

I Say
They are a bit American have the Escrow way of paying (that’s a good thing) but start with a FREE account and make sure you check the client out, you can often find their website etc.  Steer clear of some Indian companies particularly Pakistan.  Never record the whole of their script, just a portion.

Voice Bunny

They Say
Voicebunny.com
All voice actors have professional home studios and equipment.
Mr. Bunny is one picky rabbit! Less than 1 in 10 voice actors that apply get accepted to work for him. All audio is screened for quality by Mr. Bunny's entourage of experts. Mr. Bunny only delivers edited, ready-to-use audio from the best voice actors for your project. Our high speed, high quality, and low cost, is the result of our proprietary technology, Hare9000™. If you don't like a recording, you don't pay for it, period! Yeah, Mr. Bunny is fanatical about customer service (and carrot cake). Did you find a better deal somewhere else? That's continuum universe impossibility. Regardless, Mr. Bunny will match it! Contact us.

I Say
They are the cheap Voice123.com end of the market and I do not get much work, because I was invited it was free to join Voice Bunny but there are plenty of clients on VoiceBunny

Voice123
American based and slightly lower end work compared to Voices.com but similar to Voices.com

Piehole.co.uk

A UK/Irish based agency

They say:

Founded in 2006, Piehole is a voice over directory. We don't act as an agent, but instead make it easier for you to contact voiceovers and their representatives easily. We were inspired by difficulty in sourcing a good enough selection of voice over work for advertising agencies. We don't take a commission for work. We take on a selected number of voice overs each year and ensure the quality of the voices on our site through our custom quality control systems.

We are here to help you find the perfect voice for your project.

Priscilla Groves
CEO, Piehole.

I Say

Have not really given them a fighting chance to can’t comment on how successful you might be at getting work.  I have spoken to them in the past and found them very polite and happy to help and support voiceover talent. I don’t know how many active clients they have though.

Golocalise

Voice Over

We produce top quality sound for anything that requires the recording of voices in English as well as in foreign languages: online courses, documentaries, games, corporate videos, sales videos, TV/radio commercials, sports broadcasts, telephony  (IVR/on hold messages, location sound), conferences/shows, PowerPoint presentations, dubbing for films and animation.

Language directors/supervisors

At GoLocalise, the voice over process is overseen by language directors, i.e. native speakers who ensure the correct delivery, pronunciation and intonation of the script.  This speeds up the recording process by minimising the need for re-takes, thus saving valuable studio time and reducing the overall costs of the session.

Criteria for applying
Work for us
We are continuously expanding our portfolio of freelancers.

We welcome applications from translators, copywriters, editors, actors, broadcasters and voice over artists from all over the world. If you are a voice over artist based in or around London, we can call you in for projects in our state-of-the-art studio. We are also interested in hearing from voice talents anywhere in the world with professional recording facilities to work on our many remote voice jobs.

I Say
I really should submit a demo as we follow each other on Twitter.

Your demo should contain a good mixture of corporate, commercial, educational and any other experience you have in the field, to show off the full range of your skills. Also make sure you include a sample of your voice in English with your foreign accent. Please attach the latest copy of your CV and all your contact details.

VoicesPro.com

Polite and nice team, they offered my a year of Premium Membership to invite students to use their service.  A lot of the work is ‘actor’ based, involves going somewhere or doing something.  There is a section of no paid work that if you think will raise your profile – you can think about applying for.

Starnow.co.uk

Have some nearly all unpaid work that you might like to consider to raise your profile.

Having your voice on Online Voices will cost you nothing. There’s no registration fee, no subscription fees and no hidden costs. It’s completely free.
What you need
First and foremost, you need experience of recording voiceovers. Secondly you need to either work from a good quality home studio or live close to a professional studio.
Your demos need to be well produced, high quality mp3s. The more demos you have, the more chance you have of being selected by visitors to Online Voices.
To have the most impact you should have demos that can be categorized as commercial, informative and character. Please also submit demos with regional accents, or speaking a different language (we often have requests for English with a foreign accent).
The length of each demo should not be over 30 seconds and should mostly be without background music.
You also have the possibility to attach a video demo or a link to YouTube or Vimeo. If you don’t have a demo we can cut a demo for you for a small fee.
WARNING - UKVoices.co.uk

I have heard nothing good about this site, some of the things that have been said by others include:

Months ago I signed up with a number of agencies, UK Voices being one. They were the only agency to charge a fee, but they had a comprehensive “money back” offer if you don’t get work through them, as long as you audition for one job per week.
Given that other agencies I’m on generally have anything up to 10 jobs per week, I figured that’s not too bad and I may as well spread my wings as far as possible, and signed up.
The issues I’ve encountered:
* You never see the UK Voices ‘jobs’ advertised on any other agency site, nor vice versa. All the others have noticable crossover.
* As mentioned above…phone-in auditions? Especially if half the point of them is that you’re saying you can work from home; you need -proof- of your home setup and its quality.
* There is no confirmation of application
* There is no feedback from applications
* Jobs appear perhaps two per week, or sometimes not at all, which leads me nicely into….
* The “money back” promise. The fine print states that you get a refund if you a) apply for one job per week, and b) do not get into the ‘final shortlist’ for any job you apply for. The problem here is twofold.
i) Most weeks, there is at least one ‘job’ to apply for. However, twice now there have been gaps of more than two weeks between advertised jobs. According to their conditions, as you didn’t apply for a job in that time, you’re out of the money back offer. Never mind that there were no new jobs to apply for.
ii) As there is no feedback, you don’t know whether you’ve got through to the ‘final shortlist’ of anything. All they would have to do is say “well, you were shortlisted for (pick “job” at random here)” and they get out of it that way also.
As you can tell, I bitterly regret joining the site, but most of all I bitterly regret coughing up £60 which I’m not going to see again.”
I cannot substantiate this review as I have tried to contact UK Voices and failed.

Summary
Like any product or service – go in with your eyes open and make proper informed consumer/review based decisions about whether YOU think that an online agency is right for you.
